When one has an interest in fields such as mathematics and the sciences, one often finds it difficult to have reasonable discussions about such interests with others. YMU provides an open forum for discussion of any topic from literature to politics to sport. Although certain forums already exist, I believe YMU is unique, as it is targeted primarily at a teenage, high school audience, rather than an adult audience or a more general range of people. I will be writing a series of posts about the sciences, as I have a distinct interest in them, and am an avid follower of modern science news. As I have a background primarily focused on the fields of hard science and mathematics, I will be looking mainly at stories that involve such disciplines, rather than those that involve the more abstract, qualitative sciences. I consider this a big opportunity, as it gives me the chance to discuss stories related to my personal fields of interest with others, and will thus enable me, and any other contributors to further our understandings of the topics.
